DC Beer Newsletter - August 2025

August is upon us.

The summer has flown by, and we’re not sure exactly we have to show for it, but hey, that’s the blur of the hazy heat. Let’s prepare for the last month of summer break and enjoy the lighter rush hour traffic before folks start taking their kids back to school. We would love to know some of the cool breweries and beer adventures you’ve had this summer, so tag us @dcbeer on the socials. Happy birthday month to our very own editor in chief Jacob Berg and our beer historian hero and lager loving partner Mike Stein!
As we get ready to celebrate International Beer Day on August 8th, let’s take a look at some of the recent noteworthy beer news.

Our dear friend and one helluva brewer, Josh Chapman, has accepted a position with Sojourn Fermentory. Though we are a bit disappointed that we won’t get to see Josh as often and enjoy his creations at Right Proper, it is an understandable, yet bittersweet change that is best for Josh and his fantastic family. As the new Director of Production at theSuffolk, Virginia brewery brought to you by beer friends Jinson Chan and Mike Pauley, Josh will no doubt bring all of his admirable, wonderful qualities to the role, and will be closer to his home “between the Bay and the Sea.” Go take a long weekend and go visit Josh at his new digs.

We also learned that Frederick, Maryland’s Idiom Brewing is for sale; as is Herndon, Virginia’s Juicy, which is looking for a new Virginia location; and there will be a big merger announcement coming in August involving a local brewery that will likely surprise some. And of course, our dear Dynasty folks are closing their Ashburn location, though we still haven’t heard if they’ve been able to find a buyer.
