DC Beer Newsletter - May 2026
There's a meme where Justin Timberlake says "it's gonna be me," but it sounds like "May." Also, his hair looks a bit like dried ramen noodles in the music video. Now people on the internet post bricks of ramen to signify the month of May. What a world! Semiotics aside, it's a great month for beer. The vibes are, dare we say, good? Saints Row will reopen under new ownership and management in a few months, Silver Branch will open a brewery/taproom/restaurant in Wheaton, Urban Garden hopes to open in Shaw this month, Right Proper Kitchen has soft opened in Brookland. We love to see it! Let's crack a maibock, hit the Metropolitan Beer Trail, and get to it.

The Genetically Unapologetic Shirt Fundraiser for Jasmine is still going, so grab a shirt and support! Support Black-owned, woman-owned breweries all month, and all year, long.

DC Beer Events Spotlight
Sunday, May 31st. 1-4pm. May Beer Share at Henceforth! Join us for the first time as a beer share group at Henceforth! Have you been to DC’s newest brewery? Well, we don’t know how that’s possible, but please join us for a wonderful Sunday afternoon in this gorgeous mid century modern space. Ben Mullet is an amazing brewer and we will enjoy not only our nerdy beer share beers, but you’ll want to try every one of Ben’s beers on the menu. Sunday is a wonderful time to enjoy the ambiance of Henceforth, enjoy Chef Alfredo’s menu, Paste & Rind’s new cheese boards and if you need a break from beer, you can have some lovely wine. But obviously we’re here for the beer. Please be respectful to your fellow beer nerds, buy beer from the brewery, and be awesome. See you in May! (This one is DC Beer members only, but you can be a member… easy peasy)

Wednesday, May 20th. 6:30-9pm - SPRK Trivia x DC Beer @ Other Half Brewing, Ivy City - Come party with Jordan, listen to good music, enjoy some hazies, and play trivia. It’s seriously fun, but not too serious.

Wednesday, May 13th, 6-8pm. Womxn’s Brew Culture Club staight up chillin’ at Lost Generation. Come through for some damn good beers, and a mid-week hang out. We’re keeping it chill this month, since the next two months we’re going on adventures to VA and MD! Let us know you’re coming so we can snag enough room.
We’re taking a field trip to Wheatland Spring! (Get it? A FIELD trip!) We’re teaming up with Caleb of City Brew Tours for a trip to the farm. And this farm makes beer, delicious beer. Many of you love Wheatland Spring, but it’s a hike to get out there, and then there’s the whole drinking and having to drive back thing… ugh. With the help of City Brew Tours, we get a damn good deal. We ride out together for Wheatland Spring’s Annual Land Beer Fest on Saturday, June 13th. Spots are VERY limited… seriously, by the time this newsletter gets published, there’s probably only going to be a few left. Perk of being a DC Beer subscriber, you heard about it first. We’ll be picked up/dropped off from a Metro accessible location in DC, TBD on Saturday, June 13.

BEER OF THE MONTH:
Our Beer of The Month at the Brew Shop is Briefly Gorgeous, a Bluejacket / Lost Generation collaboration beer in honor of AAPI month. “As poetic as the beautiful novel for which it is named, Briefly Gorgeous is a stellar collab between two of DC's best breweries: Bluejacket and Lost Generation. Saison can sometimes be such a yeast driven beer that it leaves room for little else, but Briefly Gorgeous turns that notion on its head with the additions of green and red Sichuan peppercorns from 50Hertz Tingly Foods, yuzu, and a Motueka dry hop, all of which serve to complement the yeast character and drive additional pops of lemon, citrus, and fresh white flowers. At once complex and easy to drink, Briefly Gorgeous is a true treat, and the perfect thing to usher in the warm weather.” ~ Julie, The Brew Shop

Aslin Fruhlingsfest 2026, May 17 in Alexandria. The beers are pay as you go, the activities are plentiful, and so are the guest breweries. Free registration!
Silver Branch Kolschfest, May 23 in Silver Spring. Buy tickets in advance and save!
Foam 10th Anniversary at Churchkey, Thursday, May 28. A lot of us like the hazies from this Vermont brewery, but they’re also bringing a saison, an export lager, and a steam beer. This should be a good time.
